Short Story Competition: The Long-list

June 10, 2016 By HR Leave a Comment

We are thrilled at the record number and excellent quality of entries for this year’s short story competition. It did make the selection process slightly slower, so apologies to all those eager beavers who have been watching for this announcement.

For those of you interested in the process, all three judges received copies of the stories (without the names, so the process is anonymous) and were asked to put forward a list of those stories that each judge felt should be considered further. The long-list is the combined list, and some stories were put forward by more than one judge. So, without further ado, the long-listed stories (in alphabetic order):

A6 DNR
HEROES OF MY HEART
NARROW IS THE ROAD AND STRAIGHT THE GATE
NORTH SEA SELKIE
OUR STARS
PAPA BOMBO
POTHOLES
SELF-ASSESSMENT
SOME PLACE TO GO
THE LUCKY ONES
THERE’S A HOUSE AT THE BOTTOM OF MY GARDEN
THE WORST POSSIBLE SCENARIO
WOLSEY’S GATE

Congratulations to all of the authors of these stories (we haven’t named you, as at this stage the process is still anonymous)!

The next step is for the judges to meet this week to narrow the selection down to a short-list, which will be announced on here on June 17th  so watch this space. And please make a note in your diary to join us for the reading of the winning stories at the Bedtime Story event on June 26th at 7.30 (free, but ticketed.)

We looking forward to seeing you then!

Your judges Ruth, Jeanette and Liz
