The last thirty years have transformed the world of children’s literature. They have brought us picture books like The Gruffalo, gritty ‘young adult’ fiction and everything in between – not least a certain boy wizard called Harry Potter. And of course all their great predecessors are still very much with us – among them Roald Dahl, whose centenary we celebrate this year. These much-loved books and thousands more feature in the new Oxford Companion to Children’s Literature, the editor of which, Daniel Hahn, will be joining us to discuss their enduring appeal. He will be in conversation with writer, former bookseller and lifelong reader Julia Jones.
