Sylvia Blackwell, a young woman in her twenties, moves to East Mole, a market town in 1950’s middle England, totally up to a challenging position as Children’s Librarian. But her job at the library becomes compromised by a network of local intrigue.

Sylvia falls dangerously in love with the local GP and it’s her connection to his precocious daughter and the way in which she helps the other East Mole children which will change her life and put them, the library, and her job under threat.
