This remarkable story is based around the author’s grandparents’ escape, along with her mother, who was just a child at the time, to London from Nazi-occupied Vienna in 1939.  The author’s grandmother was the 1930 tennis champion of Austria and went on to beat Tim Henman’s grandmother at Wimbledon.  The book also explores the terrible fate of the family they left behind who died in the holocaust.  Woven throughout is the author’s search for her own identity, growing up with survivor’s guilt.
