Elly Griffiths and Martin O’Brien will talk about the art of creating and writing about a detective, with Felixstowe-based writer Richard Walker.
From Sherlock Holmes to John Rebus, the detective is at the heart of crime writing. But who is he – or she? Gritty professional or inspired amateur? Forensic genius or just lucky? Defender of the law, or criminal at heart? Hear two accomplished exponents of the art of the detective story talk about creating and living with their detective characters.
Elly Griffifths’ book The Ghost Fields is the latest in her series about forensic archaeologist Dr Ruth Galloway, set in the bleak and beautiful flatlands of north Norfolk. The Guardian called the series ‘gripping’ and ‘enthralling’, the New York Times called it ‘highly atmospheric’, while The Independent singled out her character Ruth Galloway for special praise.
Martin O’Brien is the author of the acclaimed French detective series featuring Daniel Jacquot. This eight-book series is set in Marseilles and in the Lubéron and demands frequent research trips to the South of France, a hardship that the author bears with patience and fortitude!
